From the Field to the Market — with Quality at Every Step

Stella Keitirima Enterprises Limited began operations in 2010, attaining full legal status in June 2018. Over more than a decade, the company has built a deep-rooted presence across Northern and Central Uganda, working directly with farmers to purchase, process and market their grain.

The company’s primary aim is to enhance the value chain of agricultural products — mainly maize, sorghum, cassava and barley — while contributing to food security, improved maternal and child nutrition, and stronger household incomes by employing youth and women across the regions it serves.

Current business activities:

1. Maize Collection

Sourcing maize directly from smallholder farmers across Northern Uganda, ensuring fair prices and reliable pick-up at the farm gate.

2. Milling & Processing

Converting raw maize into quality flour through our milling operations — adding value to every grain before it reaches the market.

3. Sorghum Marketing

Collecting sorghum from farmers and supplying it to breweries and buyers, giving growers a dependable, well-paying market for their harvest.

The Problem

Problem

Uganda’s brewing industry depends on a consistent supply of clean, high-value sorghum and corn starch — yet reliable local sources remain scarce. Most available grain fails to meet the quality and volume thresholds demanded by industrial buyers, forcing breweries to look elsewhere, pay premium import prices, or operate below capacity. The gap between what farmers produce and what breweries need remains wide, costly, and largely unaddressed.

The SOLUTION

Solution

SKEL is building a fully-fledged grain handling and milling plant in Northern Uganda to bridge the long-standing gap between what farmers produce and what industrial buyers need. Alongside this infrastructure investment, we are actively strengthening our out-grower network across Acholi, Lango and West Nile — equipping farmers with the training, extension services and on-farm support needed to produce cleaner, higher-yielding, market-ready grain season after season.

To ensure every batch that leaves our facility meets the standards demanded by breweries and food manufacturers, we are putting in place rigorous quality control and standardisation measures across all our grain handling and processing operations. Three investments, one outcome — a supply chain that farmers can profit from and buyers can depend on.

Community Involvement

We believe that a thriving harvest should benefit more than just one household. Through farmer training, youth employment and women’s empowerment programmes across Acholi, Lango and West Nile, we are dedicated to making a lasting impact in every community we serve
